You call THAT Meditation too???

Have you thought to yourself, “How can someone really suggest something like     (fill in the blank)     (meditation, etc.) activity when there’s so much happening in the real world?”  My friends, don’t tune out on this whole Meditation thing quite yet. It really doesn’t have to be silent, still, or boring at all!  This blog post has some really “weird” and unique ways to Meditate that you probably haven’t heard of before. And to make it more fun, we’ve included more video links so you can see/hear it in action!  AND we’ll keep this post short!

  • LAUGHTER!!!   Start your day with Laughter. Get a group of friends together.  Just LAUGH for NO reason. While you feel “silly” at first, especially if someone is watching you, you quickly notice the effects of this method of meditation!  Or to go: https://youtu.be/QEZkb97rRtI  There’s even a “Wiki How” for this practice, lol. If you’re having trouble, but want to try it out – visit https://www.wikihow.com/Do-Laughter-Meditation .
  • FIRE!!!!  A flame, candle, or larger fire can be used in multiple ways for meditation. One method is to place a candle a few feet away from you, gaze at it for a few moments, then close your eyes and imagine it. Keep your focus on the flame itself or in your mind and see yourself becoming more light and full of purity and joy. Alternatively, imagine yourself throwing your stress, worries, frustrations, etc. into a fire, ask for forgiveness, then let it all go. In the right place and time, this can be an effective way to let go of things and people that are no longer serving you. There are many variations, such as writing a letter to someone that you cannot speak to to provide closure for yourself, forgiveness, and to move on.
  • DANCING!!!   Dancing is an excellent way to meditate, as it requires you to be fully present in the moment. Pragito Dove said, “Dancing meditation is one of the easiest ways to discover a calm, quiet, place inside you that is filled with joy, wisdom, and love.” Dancing allows you to express yourself however you wish, to celebrate you and your entire being – all the flaws, scars, beauty, and divine-ness of you. It releases tension and allows us to connect with the energy within our souls. Turn on your favorite music, close your eyes, tune out everything except the music, and just let your body move to the music, however it desires…  In the last year, I personally have fallen in love with Kizomba, which originated in Angola (southern Africa), and a variation called “Urban Kiz”. This style is a partner dance, but I often perform it solo at home as a meditation!  Here’s a demo by Audi MPK & Pamelita, a duo who teach at workshops throughout the US. Or hear from a Black American woman who explains clearly why Kizomba is a great way to meditate!
  • ASKING QUESTIONS THAT DON’T HAVE AN ANSWER???  What???  Koan Meditation is a technique from Buddhism that asks questions that don’t have an “easy” reasoned-out answer – such as a riddle of sorts, something confusing or paradoxical. It is believed to be a way to connect with your inner being and God on a deeper level. Think along the lines of,
    *   “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, did it make a sound?”
    *   “What is your original face before you were born?”
    *   “When you can do nothing, what can you do?”
    *   “What is the sound of one hand clapping?”
  • LABYRINTHS!!!  These specially designed “mazes” with just one way in and one way out prompt your brain to go ablaze on both the left and right sides, which enhances problem solving and relaxation. A type of “movement meditation,” labyrinths are a unique way to experience meditation! Most are accessible and available to the public – search for one near you on the World wide Labyrinth locator.
  • SINGING!!!  That’s right… just SING your heart out. I do suggest choosing uplifting songs for this meditation, although at times sad songs are the right fit at certain points in life. Use your best judgement and pick your song…  Put on music you love, crank up the volume, and let loose. Focus on just singing to your hearts content.  Really get into it, feel the emotions, put your all into it… when the song ends, just pause. Make sure you take some time in between to reflect and just be in the moment before transitioning to another. Rest in the silence, lean into the calm, heal those wounds in the space that comes after the release.
  • GONGS!!!  We’re going to end on this powerful one right here. While it can be tough to find locations that offer Gong Baths or Gong Meditation sessions, it is worth your while to find one near you and try it out the very next chance you get. It is a powerful experience that can hardly be explained with words – you really need to feel it for yourself.  Crystal bowl therapy is also similar to Gong therapy, though not quite as reverberating. If you can find a session with more than one gong, I recommend that even more – here is an example:  https://youtu.be/itiVAH08uAI In these classes or sessions, you usually lie down comfortably while someone hits the gong at varying speeds and intensity. It puts you in a Lucid Dream state – and is the only instrument in the world that can take you from waking to lucid-dream state in one second.  You will feel the vibration within your entire body and almost feel as if your body is full of a kind of light.  The benefits of this type of therapy are profound and often noticeable after just one session.  Learn more about the benefits:  https://youtu.be/0COqT1k8GOk.
