Comfort Zones

comfort-zones

Hey there everybody! When I saw this quote it really resonated with me, and I began to think about how it relates to so many things in life. When we first embark upon a new job, health habit or any unfamiliar experience, we operate outside of our comfort zones. We have to be willing to try something that we’d never tried before in order to get a better job, loose weight or improve our mental health.

Another quote that I love is…”if you want something different, you have to be willing to do something different.” We all want better health and wellness, but sometimes we aren’t willing to leave our comfort zone and shift our mindset. Sometimes our comfort zone can be very unhealthy. For example when we get comfortable eating junk food or sweets when we feel stressed and overwhelmed. This becomes our go to method of coping, but it causes us lots of health issues. In order to break this habit, we have to be willing to step outside of what temporarily comforts us, and be willing to do something different.

Many of the strategies that we recommend at the Center for Social Emotional Wellness are outside of the “norm.” Restorative discipline, self-care and learning mindfulness practices asks us to think outside the norm. We can create healthier lives for ourselves as educators and for the students and families that we serve if agree to leave our comfort zone.

Think differently – Act differently –  Live differently!
